Opposition Protests in Dakar

I’m back in Senegal for a few weeks to cover the elections and produce a couple of features. Today was spent running through the streets of downtown Dakar chasing protestors who were running from tear gas-hurling riot police. I ran into a bunch of old friends, (which was nice) and got a face full of tear gas multiple times (less nice).

The protestors are rallying against current President Abdoulaye Wade’s attempt to run for a third term, which is or is not against the constitution’s two-term limit, depending on whom you ask. Photos below.. more info to follow. Credit: Ricci Shryock/Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting

The Birds

When I was little, my dad and I would watch Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ all the time. Looking back, perhaps it wasn’t the best choice of films for a five-year-old. I had flashbacks of man-eating birds when I was shooting these gulls in SW Florida this week. I took a Panera bagel, threw it above my head, and shot away with a 50 mm. That basically means these birds are as close as they appear.
